EMILIO J. CÁRDENAS
As a Senior Advisor to The Scowcroft Group, Emilio J.
Cárdenas advises clients on Latin America, with a focus on
Argentina. Working as an in-country member of The Scowcroft
Group team, he provides due diligence, business and political
risk assessment services as well as general business support for
client efforts in the region.
Mr. Cárdenas practiced law in Argentina for thirty years, and
since 1996 has been advising national and foreign clients in the
fields of international business transactions, oil and gas,
joint-ventures, privatizations, infrastructure projects, and
project financing. In particular, Mr. Cárdenas advised foreign
clients in various privatizations in the telecommunications, oil
and gas and energy sectors. As a scholar of international legal
and economic affairs, he has lectured in a variety of
international forums. He is the author of several books and
numerous articles on oil and gas legal matters, foreign
investment topics, privatizations and financial and other
related matters. He is a contributor to all Argentine major
newspapers, and he is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board
of the Journal of International Economic Law and Director of
“Agenda Internacional.” Mr. Cárdenas has also been a member of
various Boards of Directors of corporations involved in oil and
gas ventures, maritime transportation, banking, insurance,
pension funds, medical care, electric distribution, agriculture,
tire production, real estate development, etc. Mr. Cárdenas
received his law degree from the University of Buenos Aires, and
subsequently undertook graduate studies at the University of
Michigan, Princeton University, and the University of California
(Berkeley).
